The April Post: Slowly Adding the Collection

My posts have been few and far between lately and unless I get a burst of energy towards collecting, I don't really see that changing anytime soon.  But I still want to grow my collection even if I am not doing it by leaps and bounds.  The cheapest route to do that would be through trade.  Here are some cards I picked up in a couple of trades in the past week:

Sorry I'm Late

First off allow me to apologize to Robert from $30 a Week Habit because he was gracious enough to send me some cards for a contest under the notion that I would write a 100 word post about the cards I received.

I had put collecting and blogging on the backburner as my wandering mind drifted off to other pursuits only to be snapped back when I received 5 cards from Robert in my mailbox.  I fully intended to participate in the contest with a 100 word post but a mix of procrastination, work, and traveling did me in as far as collecting cards was concerned let alone blogging.

This morning I looked at the perpetual stack of cards I seem to always have on my cluttered desk and on top were those 5 cards.  I noticed that the drawing for the contest was posted on Monday and I had missed out on writing my entry.  I am very glad that I didn't win the drawing because I was too slack to write 100 words.

Either way, better late than never, so here is my super late entry to the $30 a Week Habit's 100 word contest:

The February Post: Gotta Get Chipper

Not much has been going on for me lately on the card collecting front as I have been pursuing some of my other hobbies more heavily in the past couple of weeks.  Yes I do consider myself a multipotentialite, so I find myself jumping between interests from time to time.  I decided it was best to embrace the scattered interests of my life instead of fighting the urge and trying to focus on one thing.  From card collecting to games to gardening to learning programming to my day job, my interests span wide and when I focus too much on one of them, I get bored.  So I found it's best for me to divvy up my time between all of them.  I won't become an expert and any of these things, but I at least I know I will be happy with that.

Ok, ok....I know you didn't come here to read the ramblings of a madman.  You want to see cards!

January Mail Day Part One: Triple Kelly

I completed another trade on the Beckett site and this one was big.  I received over 30 cards from another user in exchange for about 20 cards of my own.  This has the making of a multiple post mail day so we'll start with football cards since they composed only a smaller part of the trade.

2002 Topps Chrome Warren Sapp
This was the lone Warren Sapp card in the trade.  The condition isn't in the best shape, but good thing that I am not the biggest stickler for condition.  This card is a great representation of how Sapp played the game, full of enthusiasm.

Cards I Like: 2009 O-Pee-Chee Black #460

Back in November, when I was pondering whether or not to get back into collecting and reviving the blog, I remember running across this post over at the Chronicles of Fuji.

I loved the post discussing and showing off black bordered cards, with music, all on Black Friday.

But I did notice that one of my favorite black-border parallel sets was missing from that post.  And that would be the black-border parallels from 2009 O-Pee-Chee.

2009 O-Pee-Chee had a very retro feel to it with old-school cardboard stock and non-glossy fronts.  I think that is the reason this is one of my favorite sets of the modern era. And the black-bordered parallels fit great with them, especially on the studio shots:

Reap the Heap #5: The Return of the Heap

It's time to get back into my old ways.

This idea was originally "borrowed" the Nachos Grande blog and his Trade Stack.  Sorry Chris, but I am borrowing it again.

Before you even read further, go check out his Trade Stack, it is the original after all.

How "Reap the Heap" Works

Occasionally I will add a card or more to the heap.  In order to "Reap the Heap" all you have to do is leave a comment that you want the heap of cards and that you have one (or more) of the cards on my wantlists (see the top menu of the blog) to send to me.  That's it, just one card (or more) from my wantlists for the entire heap of cards.  First come, first serve of course on claiming the cards.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2017!

I am sure many of us agree that 2016 was a year that will live in infamy but I would rather not beat upon the past and instead look forward to a brand new year.  Let's forget 2016 like we should forget Mariah Carey's performance last night.

So here are my top 5 card/blog related resolutions this year:

1. Get some more relics, auto's, or 1/1's for players I collect

Since I purged the majority of my collection in those years of non-collecting, my wantlist is very extensive.  But the area I am severely lacking in is "hits" for all those players I collect.  So my goal for this year is to get at least one "hit" for each person in my want lists.  I would also like to look into some graded vintage cards if my budget allows.
