The Dolphins are in the Playoffs!?

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays with loved ones over the weekend.  The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up a smile and gave it to every Dolphins fan in the world last night.

With KC's victory over the Broncos last night, the Miami Dolphins have clinched a playoff spot.

This is the first playoff berth since 2008 and only the second in 14 seasons.

14 seasons!  That's a lot of years.

Who would've thought that after starting the season 1-4, the Dolphins would even be close to making the playoffs?  Especially when that one victory was over the Browns in a game the Dolphins should have lost.

Then the Dolphins went on a roll, winning 9 of their last 10 games, and steamrolling to a playoff berth.  What has been so great about this run is they have found so many different ways to win close games:

There was the emergence of Jay Ajayi at running back with a 204-yard rushing game against the Steelers...

Record: 2-4

and then he followed that with another 200+ yard game against the Bills.

Record: 3-4

Against the Jets, it was Kenyan Drake's kick return to give the Dolphins a late lead.
Record: 4-4

Then came Kiko Alonso's pick-6 against the Chargers when they were driving towards game-winning field goal range.

Record: 5-4

Against the Rams, the Dolphins didn't score a single point until the fourth quarter.  Then they reeled off two straight touchdown drives to win the game 14-10.

Record: 6-4

In their next game,  against the 49ers, they stopped Kaepernick 2 yards short of tying the game with no time left on the clock. (disregard that dude's forearm)

Record: 7-4

The Dolphins would lose the Ravens the next game as Flacco carved up their defense.  Sorry, I will not post a gif of this abomination of a performance
Record: 7-5

Against the Cardinals, the Dolphins would lose their starting QB Ryan Tannehill with a knee injury.  No worries though, as Matt Moore would lead the offense on a drive for Andrew Franks to kick the game winning field goal.

Record: 8-5

Miami would now have to roll with Matt Moore because the timeframe for Tannehill's knee injury is unknown.  Even with a backup QB, the Dolphins would play their best game of the season against the hated Jets.

Record: 9-5

This brings us to last Saturday's game against the Bills.  The Dolphins had a big lead but allowed Buffalo to stay in the game and eventually take the lead late in the 4th quarter.  With no time on the clock, Andrew Franks drilled a 55-yard field goal to tie the game and send it to overtime.  Once again, Jay Ajayi's running put the Dolphins in position to win the game on a OT field goal.

Record 10-5

With only one game left in the regular season against the Patriots next Sunday, I expect the Dolphins to rest most of their starters in hopes of avoiding anymore injuries before the playoffs.

I'm sorry for the super long post full of gifs.

It is not often I can post about the Dolphins going to the postseason.

Have a great day!
