The Gift of Giving

It's been a few days since I last posted because working 12-hour shifts has a way of putting a damper on one's free time.

I had about 3000 cards sitting around in a box and I was wondering what do do with all of them.  These are mostly common, low-value cards that really aren't worth selling unless I sold them in bulk and I almost went that route but I decided to do something else with them.

Today's Pack:  2010 Topps Football

Yesterday, I went from shortest to tallest but since football is all about mass, let's go by weight this time.

185 Lbs.

Today's Pack:  2009 O-Pee-Chee

Gonna switch up my post format for some of these "A Pack A Day" posts with a little info from the back of the card.  Let's do this one shortest to tallest.

5' 9"

Today's Pack:  2011 Press Pass Football

I have griped about the eclectic nature of 2011 Press Pass before and I pretty much feel the same way after opening this pack.  I guess the Face to Face insert and Rahim Moore parallel would be the highlights of the pack.

Today's Pack:  2008 Upper Deck X

Either Upper Deck seriously overproduced "X" in 2008 and/or it didn't sell very well because if you have ever purchased a repack box, it more than likely will contain at least one pack of 2008 Upper Deck X.

Check Out My Canes: The Mad Stork

Out of all the former Miami Hurricanes football players that I collect, I realized that my collection was missing one of the greatest Hurricanes to ever play in the NFL.  So I hit up COMC to add some cards of this all-time great to my Hurricanes collection.

The Mad Stork, Ted Hendricks.

Today's Pack:  2011 Score Football

A day after the Dolphins were dismantled at the hands of the Houston Texans, this pack brings me a little solace as the Ray Lewis card heads to my personal collection.  The Joe Webb card on the bottom is your standard Score glossy parallel.

Today's Pack:  2008 Upper Deck Series 2

This was a nice fat pack with 18 cards.  2008 Upper Deck had some very nice photography that lends itself well to a card designed without a border.  I especially like the photo on the Bill Hall card.

Today's Pack:  2010 HIT Low Series

With myself being a huge fan of collegiate football, it's always great to rip a pack of cards featuring players in their college uniforms, even though this pack served up two cards of the Gators.

Today's Pack:  2011 Topps Series 1

It really doesn't feel like over a year has passed since 2011 Topps flagship hit the shelves.  Time sure does fly as you get older.  Nothing really to elaborate on here as everyone has pretty much seen all these cards before.

Today's Pack:  2010 Panini Rookies & Stars

Well I didn't get any rookies and I didn't get many stars in this pack.  But there were 10 cards in this pack...

Today's Pack:  2012 Topps Chrome

What a nice dusty scan.  That's one of the reasons I hate scanning Chrome cards.  The Duda card on the bottom is a refractor that came out of the pack will a nice little ding in the upper left corner.

Today's pack:  2009 Absolute Memorabilia Football Retail

It seems as though this was a quarterback themed pack of cards.  The only non-QB card is the Quinten Lawrence rookie card and it is numbered to /499.

Today's pack:  2009 Topps Heritage High Series with 2 Topps Update cards

Once again, nothing too exciting about this pack.

I did learn that Derek Holland's nickname is "Dutch Oven", that made me snicker a little bit.

I'm Really Gonna Miss Chipper Jones Next Season

In case you missed it, the Braves were down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th when Chipper comes to bat with 2 on and 2 out.  Chipper came through once again by hitting a 3-run walkoff bomb to right-center to prevent a sweep at the hands of the Phillies.  Hopefully this will help kickstart the Braves for the remainder of the season.

Maybe this photo will end up on a card someday.

The Return of A.P.A.D.

So I decided to bring back my "A Pack A Day" series that I used a lot in the earlier portion of 2011.  I love ripping packs as it is a great way to pass the time as well as serve for some easy filler posts for the blog.  Today's pack rip features a retail pack of 2011 Topps Prime.

Nothing much in this pack.  I did manage to pull a Dolphins rookie card but it was a card I already had in my possession.

Let's hope Miles Austin does well Wednesday night for the sake of my fantasy team.

The Card Hobbyist August in Review

Post Count: 19

Nineteen posts make August my most prolific blogging month so far this year, granted that Gint-A-Cuffs contributed a lot to that number

Total Pageviews: 927

The blog received nearly double the amount of pageviews in August than it did in July.  It's amazing the difference a few more posts can make.  If you write it, they will come.
