Prior to the 2008 season, Johan Santana was traded by the Twins to the Mets in exchange for 4 players.  In Santana's first season with the Mets, he showed the same pitching brilliance that made him a dominating force in the American League for many seasons.  He finished the 2008 season with a 16-7 record while not recording a single losing decision during the season's second half.  Santana led the National League in ERA (2.53) and innings pitched (234.1).  Johan finished 3rd in the 2008 Cy Young race behind Brandon Webb and winner Tim Lincecum.

Loved to pitch against Jose Valentin: 1 for 20 with 9 strikeouts (.145 OPS)
Loathed to face Frank Thomas: 10 for 21 with 5 home runs (1.815 OPS)

This year's cards still in the running for this spot:
2011 Topps #5 Clayton Kershaw (current WAR = 5.0)
